Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth is considered one of the playwright’s most powerful works. Set in Scotland, the play dramatizes the corrosive psychological and political effects produced when evil is chosen as a way to fulfill the ambition for power. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy, and tells the story of a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of arrogance, madness, and death.

The Acting Company and Guthrie Theater are both winners of theater’s most prestigious award, The Tony.  The Acting Company has toured to 48 states and 10 foreign countries.  Kevin Kline, Rainn Wilson, Patti LuPone, Frances Conroy, Jeffrey Wright, David Ogden Stiers, Keith David, Hamish Linklater and Jesse L. Martin are but a handful of performers who began their careers on tour with The Acting Company.  Actors who have performed with Minneapolis’ superb Guthrie Theater include Jessica Tandy, Hume Cronyn, Framk Langella, and many others.
