The Point welcomes Roomful of Teeth
Monday, July 3
Highland Center for the Arts | Greenboro, VT
An eight-member ensemble dedicated to re-imagining the expressive potential of the human voice, Roomful of Teeth is an insatiable musical force to be reckoned with. For their Highland Center for the Arts debut on Monday July 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm, the ensemble will perform a full program that includes Partita for 8 Voices, a vocal composition by 34-year-old American composer and Roomful of Teeth vocalist, Caroline Shaw. The piece won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013, making Shaw the youngest recipient of the award to date.
Roomful of Teeth is a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to mining the expressive potential of the human voice with a borderless repertoire encompassing singing traditions from around the world. The New York-based a cappella octet produces sounds that range “from mere whispers to moments of unearthly beauty” (The Seattle Times). Trained by vocal masters from across the globe, Roomful of Teeth is both masterful and innovative. With a style range that spans Tuvan throat singing, Broadway belting, Persian classical, and Death Metal growl, the group’s vocal acrobatics are tempered with exquisite technique and moving creativity. This experimental group continually expands its vocabulary of singing techniques, making them one of today’s most impressive new vocal ensembles.
