SUMMARY:Venus Rising @ Barrette Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Venus Rising : A World Premiere by Marisa Smith \nVARIOUS DAYS AND TIMES \n(January 30 – February 17 ) \nNorthern Stage- Barrette Center for the Arts | White River Junction\, VT \n-Get Ticket and Event Info Here- \nWhen Julie\, married mother of three\, unexpectedly leaves her husband and moves in with her mother Cora\, she’s shocked at what she finds in her childhood home. Insults\, galoshes\, and English muffins fly as the women fight for control of Cora’s life and Julie comes to grips with her own mid-life crisis. Playwright Marisa Smith\, the creative mind behind 2016’s hit Mad Love\, is back with a hilarious and deeply perceptive story of aging gracefully – or sometimes not so gracefully – and how we try to care for one another in the face of life’s challenges. Smith brings to bear her signature brand of humor and acuteness of language to leave us laughing and crying all at once. Northern Stage is proud to present another world premiere production nurtured through New Works Now. \nAdvisory: Ages 13 and up for adult language and mature themes.\nPlease note: Age advisories are subject to change as our productions go through the rehearsal process. Each parent and child is different; please use your own discretion when deciding what is right for your family

SUMMARY:Noam Pikelny & Stuart Duncan @ Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Noam Pikelny & Stuart Duncan \nSaturday\, February 16th @ 7:00 pm \nSpruce Peak Performing Arts Center | Stowe\, VT \n-Get Tickets and Event Info Here- \nTwo of the day’s foremost bluegrass players – Noam Pikelny (of the Punch Brothers) on banjo and Stuart Duncan(Nashville Bluegrass Band\, Lyle Lovett Band) on fiddle perform a concert of breakdowns\, jigs\, waltzes\, original songs and more displaying the wide range of possibilities of these two folk instruments in the hands of two virtuosos. \nNoam Pikelny has emerged as the preeminent banjoist of his generation. He is a founding member of Punch Brothers and was awarded the first annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass in 2010 in addition to IBMA’s Banjo Player of the year in 2014 and 2017. \nUniversal Favorite (Rounder Records\, 2017) is the fourth record Noam Pikelny has released under his own name\, but it’s truly his solo debut. His previous solo efforts—including 2014’s landmark Noam Pikelny Plays Kenny Baker Plays Bill Monroe—were full-band affairs that revealed his abilities as a dynamic bandleader while reinforcing his reputation as an inventive accompanist –with both albums receiving Grammy nominations. Universal Favorite features only the man himself\, playing lovely originals and covers that showcase his unique approach to the instrument and compositional flair. He recorded them live in the studio without accompaniment\, coaxing a wide array of sounds and colors out of his instruments\, embracing the challenges and exploring the new possibilities of the solo setting. And\, for the first time in his career\, Pikelny even sings. It turns out he has a striking deadpan baritone that conveys humor and melancholy in equal measure. \n
