New Music on The Point!

Here’s what you’re hearing this week…

Song: Dial Drunk
Artist: Noah Kahan
Album: Stick Season
Release: 2023
On his long-awaited deluxe version of Stick Season, Noah Kahan included “Dial Drunk” in the extended version of his hit album. Throughout the folky song, Kahan tells the story of calling an ex-lover but the banjo background makes it rather upbeat. The re-release of the album has fans learning a couple of new songs and remembering other favorites from the original album reveal. The New England native can be found on his almost completely sold-out North American tour that kicks off this week!

Song: Francesca
Artist: Hozier
Album: Unreal Unearth
Release: 2023
This is the debut single from Hozier’s third studio album, Unreal Unearth, planned for release August 18. The track is inspired by Dante Alighieri’s 14th century epic poem, Inferno, the initial part of The Divine Comedy, which portrays the journey of the soul towards God in three parts. The song is about Francesca da Rimini, a beautiful noblewoman from Ravenna who finds herself condemned to the second circle of Hell for her sins.

Song: Body
Artist: Briston Maroney
Album: Ultrapure
Release: 2023
Nashville-based artist Briston Maroney has officially announced details of his forthcoming new album – Ultrapure – being released September 22. Briston says his favorite moments in the human experience are the ones that you don’t even realize have started, but you feel so deeply when you realize they’ve ended. These are what he calls ultrapure moments, and this new album is his attempt to get those thoughts out of his mind and into songs.

Song: Act Natural
Artist: Margaret Glaspy
Album: Echo The Diamond
Release: 2023
Margaret Glaspy has announced the August 18 release of her new album, Echo The Diamond. She has shared the first taste of the album via the LP’s exultant opening track “Act Natural.” The song captures the strange thrill of infatuation, channeling wonder and wide-eyed bewilderment. The song is about trying to play it cool when you meet someone remarkable,” she says. “I wrote it in an afternoon in the back of a tour bus and the riff came separately when I got home.”

Song: Say Yes to Heaven
Artist: Lana Del Rey
Album: Say Yes to Heaven
Release: 2023
Lana Del Rey’s dreamy, heavenly, ambient new release “Say Yes to Heaven” is anything but new, but it’s just as magical as you might expect. She was surprised that one of her older songs that she never expected to see the light of day popped up on her Spotify. She listened to it right away, and while there was a beauty to hearing it again after all this time, there was something bittersweet about it. Even though she just released a new album earlier this year, she decided this was the song of hers that should be out.
